Brush Hand New is a complete typeface inspired by the WSI-released Brush Hand, an adaptation of the iconic Flash Bold font from the 1990s. Brush Hand, originally a nameless rework of Flash Bold, sought to simplify and enhance the legibility of the original 1939 classic designed by Edwin W. Shaar. It achieved this by refining the design, lightening the weight, smoothing jagged edges, and overall, improving the font. K-Type's New iteration of Brush Hand takes these simplifications to a higher level of precision. The outlines have been meticulously refined to eliminate any remaining roughness, resulting in gracefully flowing glyphs that are exceptionally well-suited for titles and display purposes. Additionally, the letter spacing in the New version has been significantly improved, addressing the erratic and overly loose spacing found in the original Brush Hand. Furthermore, subpar characters have been redrawn, and the character set has been expanded to encompass European accented characters. Brush Hand New is available for personal use at no cost.
