Freehand is a comprehensive type system meticulously crafted by Debora Manetti and Francesco Canovaro to replicate the organic essence of handcrafted brush writing. It utilizes OpenType ligature substitutions to introduce random variations of each character, resulting in an authentic and imperfect appearance. The core font in this system is a broad, free-flowing brush cursive style, boasting an extensive selection of over four hundred alternate character versions and double letter ligatures. For those who prefer a more consistent look in their designs and greater control over letter variations via the glyph panel, we've also included a "brush easy" version without the substitutions. In addition to the two Freehand brush weights, we've thoughtfully incorporated two sets of matching style icons. One set is ideal for UI design, featuring navigation icons, while the other set comprises food-related icons. To enhance design flexibility and create visual contrast, we've included a block letter family in two different weights that can be used alongside the other fonts in the collection. Freehand supports over 40 languages using the Latin alphabet, offering a comprehensive range of accents and diacritics.
