What defines the essence of beautiful penmanship, anyway? While printed scripts often present uniform characters, conventional calligraphy strives for such consistency as well. Yet, the beauty of personal handwriting thrives on the unique irregularities of individual forms. The letter 'e,' for instance, doesn't remain constant; it morphs depending on the letters that come before or after it. When attempts were made to transform calligraphy into typefaces, these irregularities needed to be managed in a way that ensured a harmonious connection with neighboring letters. This led to the creation of the somewhat artificial and sterile calligraphy scripts available today. The introduction of OpenType font formats revolutionized this approach, allowing the incorporation of a rich array of ligatures and stylistic alternates into a font, and making their application a breeze. In Marleen Script, we've included nearly 100 stylistic alternates for individual letters and over 400 ligatures. With these options, it becomes possible to authentically mimic the effect of genuine handwriting using a typeface. At ingoFonts, all our fonts are available for download free of charge. However, there's a caveat: the downloadable files contain a basic version of the font, comprising only uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z. The complete font, encompassing numerals, umlauts, punctuation, and especially ligatures, is exclusively accessible with your order and payment.
