Author Notes:

RediFraktur is a contemporary take on the traditional gothic script (fraktur), crafted using a pen nib known as "redis." This font project aims to reinvent broken letterforms, maintaining the essence of gothic calligraphy. Originating from calligraphy and reed stick calligraphy, the gothic alphabet features distinctive broken arches in its letters. This style was once widespread in German-speaking and Nordic regions, even though it had limited readability. It was mistakenly associated with Nazism, although the Nazis themselves linked it to Jewish lettering and eventually replaced it in 1941. Post-World War II, it became an ornamental and historical typeface. RediFraktur emulates the fractured fraktur style with a simulated redis pen, giving uniform thickness to curved lines. This modern twist preserves gothic aesthetics while softening the letterforms' aggressiveness. The font's BETA version includes the German alphabet, digits, and select punctuation marks in bold. Future plans involve expanding the family with regular and semibold variations, along with additional ligatures and special characters. Designed by Jakub Stanski. More at www.stanski.eu.
